Prejudicial bullying is when the victim is bullied because they are perceived as different. However, “boys in particular will sexually bully girls to gain acceptance from their peers or to give the appearance that they are sexually experienced,” as stated in Sherri Gordon’s article about sexual harassment. Most often, girls use this type of bullying to eliminate competition they see from other girls, or to make themselves look better. It can range from victim to victim, depending on who the victim is, and what the bully knows about them. Sexual bullying is when the perpetrator makes sexual comments, sounds or gestures to purposefully make the victim uncomfortable. Also, it’s very dangerous because it follows the victim around wherever they go.
This form of bullying is significant because adults cannot detect it unless they closely monitor their child’s internet use and they catch it while it’s happening. “Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology,” (What). There is cyber bullying, which we’ve all heard of before. Relational aggression may be the hardest of all 6 forms to detect, because it is often dismissed as a normal part of socialization. It may include threatening to tell someone’s secret, threatening to ignore that person, or threatening to spread rumours about the victim. Relational aggression is when the bully manipulates the situation in order to damage the victim’s personal relationships or social statuses. It’s a hard form of bullying to detect because there’s no physical harm being done. This type of bullying is significant because the bully thinks he/she can get away with it since there’s no proof of the words ever being said. Verbal bullying can be identified as gossip, exclusion, and it is used when the bully would prefer avoiding all the trouble that comes with physical bullying. In fact, there are 6 different types of bullying which include physical bullying, verbal bullying, relational aggression, cyber bullying, sexual bullying, and prejudicial bullying. You might picture a big, well built guy beating up a smaller kid although, we all know that’s not the only instance of bullying, this is just the most obvious form of bullying – physical bullying. It’s a common problem in the world today, perhaps it’s so common that we’re beginning to go blind to it we dismiss it as normal conversation or light hearted banter among friends. Something as small as this can have a huge impact on students and coworkers and pretty much anyone, especially in a high stress environment. It can range from ignoring a classmate, to down right disrespecting them, or maybe even a subtle eye roll as an ‘annoying friend’ walks up.
The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time,“ (Bullying). Bullying is described as,“unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance.
